How do I upload pictures to my account?

STEP 1 - Click the "Pictures" tab and then click on "Add Photos" towards the top right of the screen.

step 1

STEP 2 - Wait a few moments for the bulk uploader to install. You may see an orange box appear with the words "Java". This is normal and will only happen once during each session.

STEP 3 - Navigate your computer's files on the left until you locate where you have stored your photos. You can then drag and drop each photo in to the right hand box.

STEP 4 - Once you've "dropped" all the photos you want into the right hand box, click "Next" and you will be able to give each photo a title and description. You can also choose here who is allowed to see your photos.

PLEASE NOTE: If you have difficulty with the bulk photo uploader (i.e. you can't find you photos on your PC), you can use the simple uploader instead. Click on the link that says "Return to our simple uploader" which is located at the bottom of the drag and drop window.

When I click "Add Photos" nothing happens or I get logged out of the site

If you are unable to even get to the "Add Photos" screen (i.e. you click the "Add Photos" link but the page never loads or you are logged out of the site), it is more than likely an issue with something called Java on your computer.

You will need to install the latest version of Java (which is a free bit of software that most new PCs have pre installed). It takes up very little memory and you can download it free over the Web. Just visit http://www.java.com and look for the free Java download.

What are albums and how do I use them?

Think of albums as a filing cabinets for your pictures. In that sense, you need to upload some photos to your account before you can have something to 'file'. As you start to add more and more photos it makes sense to file them - especially if you want to share a group of related pictures with a friend(s).

You might create an album called "My Watercolors" for example. Or you could create an album called "Reference Photos" - that holds photos you've taken whilst out and about that could come in handy for a painting exercise one day. If you like, you could share your "Reference Photo" album with other artists who are looking for inspiring scenes for their next painting.

How do I request a critique on one of my pictures?

Great question! Simply visit the forums and choose the forum category that is most appropriate to your piece of artwork.

There are TWO methods for asking for a critique. You can either add your picture right into the forum post itself or paste a link to a picture you've previously uploaded to "My Photos".

Watch this quick video that shows you exactly how to request critiques and which method is best!

How can I add copyright watermarks to my pictures?

The moment you create a piece of original artwork, you own the copyright to it by law. You do NOT have to state this anywhere in order to claim your copyright. But, a copyright watermark added to your photos can act as a deterrent.

There are some free tools online that you can use to add watermarks - one of the easiest is called Water Mark Tool. It lets you watermark multiple pictures in one go and is completely free.
