SWMM 4 Boundary Condition File

This is a file used in the CDM version of EPA SWMM 5 for the SWMM4_BOUNDARY outfall conditon.  The file format is based on the NTIDE=6 option in SWMM 4.  The SWMM 4 NTIDE=6 option input the Stage-history of water surface elevations on a separate input file identified by the NSCRAT(5) scratch file.  The SWMM 5 version of this file is very similar to the SWMM 4 file except the header of the file is simplified.  The header of the file has optional comment lines (starting with an asterisk in column 1) followed by lines with the name of the outfall followed by the column of data that contains its stage history.

The time series data has the following fields:

Year  Month Day Hour Stage

The name and location of the BC data file is found by using the Data command:

Data-->Options-->Interface Files

and then selecting the ADD button and picking BC_FILE  from the pull down menu.  This next paragraph shows a snippet of one example BC data .

*             As of August 2005 per KNK suggestions
*             Note: data nodes that are not in the actual model may be listed in this data file
*             Note: You can use asterisks to comment the data

Each of the SWMM 5 Outfalls that have a SWMM4_BOUNDARY type should have a corresponding data column in the BC Boundary file.  The output file will list those Outfall nodes found in the BC data file. You should check to see if the Outfall node is located - if it is not located then a stage default of 0.0 will be used during the simulation.

For example this note was printed for Outfall T-26B-06.

 Note:    Node                 T-26B-06 in the BC File was found in your network.

Originally, when SWMM was developed the width parameter was the collection length of the subcatchment. For example, it would be the gutter length on a street going to an inlet. In your case one easy way to estimate the Width for the subcatchment goi…
